High Priestess of Elune


As far as supports go, Tyrande is a strange one. Though her heal is helpful, it is not the core of her character, not by a long shot. With the ability to grant vision with her owl and stun enemies with Lunar Flare, she makes a powerful ganker and playmaker. Her trait makes an enemy take 25% extra damage for 4 seconds, giving her team the opportunity to burst down a problematic hero.

With many open-ended talent choices, Tyrande players can build towards a playstyle they enjoy. Her two heroics fill vastly different roles, allowing her to be adaptable all game long. As strong Tyrande player will use Sentinel for good map vision, land stuns in ganks and engagements, and Hunter’s Mark priority targets to melt them faster.

Hunter’s Mark (D)

Cooldown: 20 seconds
Marks a target enemy, increasing all damage taken by 25% and revealing them for 4 seconds. Cannot be used on Structures.

Hunter’s Mark is an active Trait, that allows you to mark a target — increasing damage dealt to them by 25% and revealing them. It’s a complete necessity in your kit, because it can be combined with your teammates’ damage to absolutely annihilate a target. Make sure any target that’s trying to be killed is marked by Hunter’s Mark.

Light of Elune (Q)

45 Mana
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Heal yourself for 340 (74 + 14 per level). If cast on an ally, also heals them for 680 (148 + 28 per level) Health.

Tyrande’s only means of healing, Light of Elune is a low Mana-costability that is best used by healing an ally. If you heal yourself only, Light of Elune heals for a small portion; however, if placed on an ally, Light of Elune heals them for twice the original amount, plus healing you. Because of this mechanic with Light of Elune, it’s best to have Tyrande in lane with another Hero.

Always position safely with Tyrande. This will basically force your lane opponent to try to deal damage to the Hero that’s accompanying you. By positioning safely, you’re basically ensuring that you can use the double function of Light of Elune.

Sentinel (W)

65 Mana
Cooldown: 18 seconds
Send an Owl that travels across the battleground revealing its path. Deals 380 (76 + 16 per level) damage to the first enemy Hero hit and reveals them for 5 seconds.

Sentinel is a global skillshot that travels until it hits an enemy. It’s a great ability for scouting out areas, and in combination with your teammates to deal damage to a target that’s marked by Hunter’s Mark. Use Sentinel often, because the vision is absolutely invaluable.

If you suspect that your opponents are trying to get their Boss, or some other valuable resource, Sentinel is sometimes all it takes to scare them away from doing it. Vision is so important in Heroes of the Storm, because not a lot of Heroes can provide it.

Lunar Flare (E)

60 Mana
Cooldown: 12 seconds
After a short delay, deal 450 (108 + 18 per level) damage and stun enemies in the target area for 1 second.

Lunar Flare is Tyrande’s clutch ability. It’s the highest skillcap ability in Tyrande’s kit, and can prove to be absolutely devastating if your teammates follow up with the crowd-control. If you’re trying to kill a target — land Lunar Flare, Hunter’s Mark them, shoot your Sentinel, and use your Basic Attacks to deal damage.

This combination will usually send your target retreating, because the damage output is so great. Again, if your teammates can follow up with this stun, it will usually result in a kill for your team. Lunar Flare is also Tyrande’s most important team-fighting ability, because you can interrupt important enemy abilities, and help your team burst down targets that are stunned.

Shadowstalk (R)

75 Mana
Cooldown: 70 seconds
Stealth you and all allied Heroes for 8 seconds, and reveal all enemy Heroes for 3 seconds.

Shadowstalk makes you and all of your allies invisible for 8 seconds, in addition to revealing enemy Heroes for 3 seconds. If your team is trying to contest an objective, or start a teamfight, you can use Shadowstalk to sneak up and surprise your enemy. It’s very useful when your team is close-knit, and you’re trying to get the jump on an enemy team — but doesn’t really have much use asides from that.

Starfall (R)

100 Mana
Cooldown: 100 seconds
Deal 140 (26 + 6 per level) damage per second and slow enemies by 20% in an area. Lasts 8 seconds.

Starfall deals a tremendous amount of damage, and slows all targets caught in the giant circumference of the ability. Starfall is a great ability to use during teamfights, because if you place it correctly, it can cover the entire fight — dealing damage and slowing your opponents.


Level 1 Talents

Recommended: Ranger’s Mark

Ranger’s Mark is the strongest talent choice for level 1, because it basically halves the cooldown of your Hunter’s Mark — allowing you to use it multiple times during a fight. The 25% damage increase is absolutely ridiculous, and when coordinated properly can devastate any Hero caught in the combination. Use your Hunter’s Mark every single time you’re in range to do so, because the cooldown is now extremely low.

Level 4 Talents

Recommended: Protective Shield

Tyrande is not a very strong healer when she’s by herself. Protective Shield allows you to further mitigate damage that your team takes, making you a more useful Support Hero. Protective Shield is a % Health shield, so using it on a tank is more useful than a damage dealer — but it’s also circumstancial: use it on whoever needs it.

Level 7 Talents

Recommended: Lunar Blaze

Lunar Blaze allows you to make plays from a further distance with Lunar Flare. After using your Sentinel to get vision of an area, you can hit enemy Heroes with your stun from Lunar Flare without them being able to see you. At this point, if they don’t have vision of you, it’s almost impossible for them to dodge the ability, making your chances of securing a stun a lot more reasonable.

Level 10 Heroics

Recommended: Starfall

Starfall is the strongest option for Tyrande’s Heroic, because it makes your teamfighting and objective control a lot stronger. The damage provided by Starfall is also quite substantial, and can devasate your opponents if you’re able to land it on multiple targets. It’s also fantastic for trying to contest a specific objective, because it forces your opponents to either a: take all of the damage from Starfall, and continue to fight, or b: retreat and take a lot of damage from your team’s follow-up.


Level 13 Talents

Recommended: Shrink Ray

Once Heroes start getting some high damage burst talents and Heroics, Tyrande can have a difficult time staying alive if she’s the only healer. Shrink Ray combats that issue by reducing a target’s damage and movement speed by 50% for 4 seconds. Use this as your means of escaping from a Hero that’s diving onto you.

Level 16 Talents

Recommended: Trueshot Aura

Every hero in the game can deal Basic Attack damage, so Trueshot Aura is definitely the best choice for level 16. It’s especially great if you have Heroes on your team that favor Basic Attack damage, like Valla or Falstad, because it increases their damage output dramatically.

As a Ranged Support yourself, it’s also very important that you’re dealing Basic Attack damage — making Trueshot Aura even stronger.

Level 20 Talents

Recommended: Rewind

Considering the weaknesses of Tyrande’s kit, Rewind is the best talent choice for level 20, followed closely by Storm Shield. Rewind allows you to use each of your Basic Abilities twice, making you extremely strong for teamfights. The double heal from Light of Elune is extremely necessary if you’re the only healer, and can be the difference between winning or losing a teamfight.

Storm Shield is a close second, allowing you to shield all of the allies around you — negating damage and increasing your abilities as a Support Hero.

The choice here is basically play-style induced. I choose Rewind because I love being able to stun a target twice. It makes catching people out of position even more devastating.
