Triple Trouble

Introduction:

The Lost Vikings allow for some of the most flexible lane setups around. Their ability to be in three places at once is their calling card, and is what makes them a powerhouse in the early game. By spreading the Vikings between two lanes, a team can have a powerful four man group that takes care of the remaining lane and rotates often for ganks.

The Lost Vikings start with an empty ability bar, filling them with talent pickups if they so choose. Their unique playstyle allows for them to build towards any one of the three Vikings or to improve them as a whole with abilities. With skilled play, the Vikings can earn their team an impressive experience lead and make for persistent threats as the game goes on.

Abilities

Viking Hoard (D)

Gathering a Regeneration Globe with a Viking permanently increases all their Health Regeneration by 0.5 per second.Current Bonus: 1.5 Regen per second

The Lost Vikings get Regeneration Master without having to spend a talent choice on it. This is strong with their low health pools and allows for strong regen between minion waves and fights.

Spin To Win! (Q)

Cooldown: 10 seconds
Activate to have each Viking deal 222 (51 + 9 per level) damage to nearby enemies.

Obtained by picking Spin to Win! at level 7. This ability does moderate area damage around each Viking when cast. If the Vikings manage to surround a target, this can deal reasonable burst damage. Spin to Win! is also the ability of choice when it comes to clearing later minion waves. Against stealthed heroes, this can be used to reveal them without having to target them.

Norse Force! (Q)

Cooldown: 30 seconds
All Vikings gain a 240 (50 + 10 per level) to 480 (100 + 20 per level) point Shield, increasing in strength for each Viking alive. Lasts 4 seconds.

Obtainable by choosing Norse Force! at level 7. This is a powerful defensive ability and can go a long way to keeping the Vikings alive. It is strongest when cast with all Vikings alive.

Jump! (W)

Cooldown: 30 seconds
Makes all Vikings Invulnerable and able to pass over enemies for 1.5 seconds.

Obtained by picking Jump! at level 13. This is great for evading powerful abilities and escaping death. While it doesn’t allow them to soar over structures or terrain, being unobstructed by heroes and damage is a huge boon.

Nordic Attack Squad (W)

Cooldown: 30 seconds
Activate to have all Viking Basic Attacks deal bonus damage equal to 1% of a Hero’s maximum Health for 5 seconds.

Obtained by picking Nordic Attack Squad at level 13. This can substantially improve the Vikings’ damage, albeit temporarily. This can quickly whittle down heroes with large health pools like Muradin or Johanna.

Viking Bribery (E)

Kill enemy Minions to gain stacks of Viking Bribery. Use 40 stacks to bribe target Mercenary, instantly defeating them. Does not work on Bosses. Maximum stacks available: 100.

Obtained by picking Viking Bribery at level 1. This allows the Vikings to more easily capture mercenary camps between soaking waves. While they excel at clearing camps as a group, when one Viking is alone Viking Bribery can make for some easy pressure on the enemy base.


Longboat Raid! (R)

Cooldown: 90 seconds
Hop into an Unstoppable Longboat that fires at nearby enemies for 245 (36 + 11 per level) damage per second and can fire a mortar that deals 450 (70 + 20 per level) damage in an area. The boat has increased Health for each Viking inside. If the boat is destroyed by enemies, all Vikings are stunned for 1.5 seconds. Lasts 15 seconds.Requires all surviving Vikings to be nearby.

Great for teamfighting and pushing, Longboat Raid! gives the Vikings another source of damage and a second health bar. Being in the longboat enables the Mortar ability, which can be used to periodically damage an area. This requires all living Vikings to be in proximity of it when cast. The longboat’s health is increased for each Viking inside of it.

Mortar (Q)

Cooldown: 2 seconds

Fires a mortar at the targeted location, dealing 450 (70 + 20 per level) damage in a large area.

Use to chunk down heroes and structures whenever the cooldown is up. With this and the automatic cannons, Longboat Raid! puts out a lot of damage.

Play Again! (R)

Cooldown: 80 seconds
Summon, fully heal, and revive all Lost Vikings at target location after a Viking channels for 2 seconds. Only one Viking may attempt to summon at a time.

Play Again! allows proficient Vikings to restore themselves to their full glory as long as one Viking persists. Keeping Erik in the back of a fight, ready to run, is a great way to ensure getting value out of Play Again!. The channel can be interrupted, so the remaining Viking(s) should find a quiet place before attempting to revive. This heroic gives the Vikings terrifying persistence if they are not all eliminated.

Talents

Level 1 Talents

Recommended: Explosive Attacks

Explosive Attacks makes Baelog great at wave clearing. This helps along the split strategy that the Vikings generally want to be taking.

Spy Games turns Erik into a mobile ward, which can provide valuable vision if used correctly. Vikings who can pull off successful micro of said Erik-ward can reap a lot of value for their team.

Viking Bribery is great for split pushing and soaking. Since it can gain stacks from multiple lanes at once, it is easy to grab a Mercenary camp every few minutes with this ability. With consistent use this can pressure the enemy base all game long.

Olaf the Stout makes Olaf tankier, but he already regenerates a lot a life at base and with the Vikings’ trait. Making him take a few more hits is okay, but isn’t terribly impactful.

Level 4 Talents

Recommended: Pain Don’t Hurt

Pain Don’t Hurt makes Baelog a solid lane presence, especially in conjunction with further enhancements to Baelog. With this Baelog will be able to survive longer in teamfights, as well, making him an all around more persistent threat.

Erik the Swift turns Erik into a speed demon, allowing him to dance on the fringe of a fight and pepper in damage. The health restoration also improves Erik’s survivability, but his low base survivability makes Baelog a preferable Viking to build upon.

It’s a Sabotage can be a powerful pickup in split push compositions. This talent makes the Vikings a huge hit and run nuisance to the enemy base, forcing them to react to lone Eriks poking faraway structures.

 

Level 7 Talents

Recommended: Spin to Win! or Baelog the Fierce

Spin to Win adds some extra burst damage to the Vikings’ kit, allowing them to clear minions and chunk heroes more efficiently. For Vikings looking to increase their damage as a whole, this is a good ability pickup. However, trying to achieve max damage with Spin to Win! can put the Vikings in some bad positions.

Baelog the Fierce makes Baelog even better at clearing out minions. Beyond that, it brings more damage to the Vikings’ plate. In conjunction with earlier pickups that augment Baelog, this can make the little dude a force to be reckoned with.

For Vikings having a tough time surviving, Norse Force is a smart pickup. The shield is substantial as long as all Vikings are alive, and goes a long way to keeping poorly managed Vikings alive.

Mercenary Lord brings less power to the table than do other talents in this tier, but can be a good pickup alongside Viking Bribery in heavy split push compositions.

Level 10 Heroics

Recommended: Longboat Raid!

The second health bar and damage increase that Longboat Raid! make it a strong heroic choice. It can force enemies to either retreat from an objective or take massive sustained damage. The Vikings’ movement speed is significantly slowed during the duration of the longboat, but with good positioning and team followup this heroic can put out massive damage. Longboat Raid! will spawn the boat on Olaf by default, but will spawn on a specific Viking if he is the only one selected.

Play Again! is strong on large maps. Though The Lost Vikings lose out on some damage when they select it over Longboat Raid!, the persistence it can bring to their kit is undeniable. As long as one of the Vikings plays conservatively, the other two can go berserk and hunt down enemies. When they are low or die, Play Again! will bring them back to the fray, ready for more.

Level 13 Talents

Recommended: Jump!

Jump! gives the Vikings incredible utility in avoiding damage and CC, albeit at a high cooldown. The Vikings can sometimes get cornered into a bad spot and Jump! goes a long ways towards fixing that. As long as at least one of the Vikings is free from crowd control, he can be selected and Jump! used to break the other vikings free of CC.

Nordic Attack Squad adds some nice burst damage to the Vikings’ basic attacks. Against a few warriors this talent really shines. The low duration can be a turnoff, however, forcing the Vikings to try and squeeze a flurry of attacks into a small window. With a Baelog who has been fully buffed, Nordic Attack Squad‘s extra damage goes great with his quick attack speed.

Hunka’ Burning Olaf can deal decent damage over the course of the game, but losing out on an ability slot for this meager AoE is generally not worthwhile.

 

 

Level 16 Talents

Recommended: Large and in Charge or Executioner

Executioner’s 40% damage increase is massive, permitting that the Vikings can hit CC’d targets. Olaf slows a target every 6 seconds, so the Vikings can get value out of this alone, but this talent is especially good on teams where CC abounds.

Large and in Charge adds some hard CC to the Vikings’ kit in the form of a 1 second stun. This charge and stun give the Vikings a lot more sticking power and can cancel important channels.

64KB Marathon is great for breaking free of roots and slows. The Vikings sometimes need more movement speed from Go Go Go! than is provided at base, and this rectifies that.

Impatience is a virtue can be picked up by Vikings who filled their ability slots up. With constant attacking, they can bring a lot more damage and utility to a fight.

Level 20 Talents

Recommended: Any

Fury of the Storm shoots The Lost Vikings’ attack damage up, especially against minions. If Executioner was picked up, these two talents in conjunction can put out incredible damage.

The Sequel! is a huge reduction to cooldown times, making it especially useful for Vikings who didn’t pick up Play Again!.

Ragnarok ‘n’ Roll is a big improvement to Longboat Raid!, allowing it to hit two targets and launch mortars farther.

Checkpoint Reached is gives the Vikings incredible persistence, allowing them to keep dying and coming back to overwhelm enemy teams.
