Spawn Egg (D)
Cooldown: 15 seconds
Place an Egg at target location, revealing the nearby area. Upon dying, you respawn at the Egg after 5 seconds. If your egg is killed, you are revealed to enemies for 15 seconds. You only grant 25% of a Hero’s experience upon dying.
Spawn Egg is the point which Murky’s entire kit revolves around. Placing your Egg is a bit of a game in itself — when you die, you’ll respawn at your Egg after a very short period of time. While the enemy shouldn’t be able to see directly where you spawn, they’ll be able to note the general location of where you first show up on the map. It’s best to re-locate your Egg every few deaths to keep your enemy guessing where it is. As your team starts to take control of more map locations, you can move your Egg closer to the enemy gates, allowing you to get back into the action faster than usual.
If the enemy see your Egg, make sure you either move it immediately, or get out of harm’s way to avoid the normal death-timer.
Cooldown: 4 seconds
Deal 180 (62.2 + 6.2 per level) damage and applies Slime on nearby enemies for 8 seconds, slowing enemies by 20%. Does 450 (155.5 + 15.5 per level) damage to enemies who are already Slimed.
Slime is an instant cast, Area of Effect ability that damage everyone within a very close proximity to you. Slime is a fantastic tool, because the slow from Slime allows you to kite your opponents, or keep them from retreating. If you position correctly in lane, you can Slime an entire Minion wave, allowing you to push lanes extremely quickly with the assistance from your handy Pufferfish.
Slime is only on a 4 second cooldown, so use it often, and annoy your enemies. Mrgrlglrlrgll!
Cooldown: 15 seconds
Spit out a Pufferfish at the target point. After 3 seconds, the fish will blow up for 854 (170 + 36 per level) damage. Enemies can attack the fish to prevent it from exploding.
Pufferfish is Murky’s strongest lane pushing tool, and Hero damaging ability. It takes a bit of getting used to, because your Pufferfish slaps on the ground a few times, then settles. After 3 seconds, your Pufferfish explodes, dealing a tremendous amount of damage. A great way to use your Pufferfish, is to lay it down in the middle of a Minion wave, stand over top of it, Slime and Basic Attack the Caster Minion, then collect the Regeneration Globe after your Pufferfish explodes. Protecting your Pufferfish is an art, so practice practice practice, and remember to Safety Bubble if you’re taking too much damage!
Safety Bubble (E)
Cooldown: 14 seconds
Becomes Invulnerable for 2 seconds. While active, you cannot attack or use abilities.
Because Murky is such a squishy target, Safety Bubble is a requirement to escape a lot of tricky situations. The invulnerability granted by Safety Bubble is incredible, because it removes every movement-slowing effect from you. It allows you to escape situations that most Heroes wouldn’t be able to get away from, and is on a fairly short cooldown. Remember to use your Safety Bubble as a damage mitigation tool as well — if you see a lot of damage coming your way, Safety Bubble is going to be the only tool you have to keep you from impending doom.
March of the Murlocs (R)
Cooldown: 100 seconds
Command a legion of Murlocs to march in a target direction, each one leaping onto the first enemy Hero or Structure they find. Each Murloc deals 210 (67.5 + 7.5 per level) damage and slow its target by 15% for 5 seconds. Does half damage to Structures.
March of the Murlocs is the epitome of troll Heroics. In case Murky wasn’t annoying enough for your enemies, March of the Murlocs releashing a torrential stream of Mrgrlgrlrling Murlocs upon your target — marching forward in a cone shape and leaping onto the nearest target. While March of the Murlocs is a hilarious Heroic, it almost serves no purpose whatsoever, because the damage and general effectiveness is insurmountable compared to Octo-Grab.
Cooldown: 50 seconds
Summon an octopus to stun target enemy Hero for 3.06 seconds while you hit them for 1 damage a second.
Octo-Grab is a low cooldown stun, that can completely decimate squishy targets if used properly. Because the timer on your Pufferfish is also 3 seconds, you can Slime, Pufferfish and then immediately Octo-Grab, for a ton of burst damage onto one target. Even though Murky remains still while Octo-Grab‘s animation is processing, you can be killed and still have the stun timer work on your target.
Level 1 Talents
Block is going to make you an even larger nuisance in lane. Enemy Heroes will try to use their Basic Attacks on you quite frequently, and Block is going to mitigate a lot of that damage. It’s basically the only talent worth picking up at level 1, because it will keep you alive through most fights if you’re playing them properly.
Level 4 Talents
Recommended: Living the Dream
For level 4, pick up Living the Dream. You gain a passive 5% boost to Ability Power, which will help you out with your damaging combo after level 10, and if you wait a mere 1:15, you get an additional 15% Ability Power. This will put out a lot more damage than Envenom, and give you the opportunity to 1 shot squishy damage-dealers during the late game. Even though it kind of makes your Spawn Egg less relevant, it’s still the best talent to choose — just try to stay alive!
Level 7 Talents
Recommended: Compressed Air
This is the strongest talent for level 7, because it allows you to hit targets that you otherwise wouldn’t have with your Pufferfish. Murky relies so heavily on the damage from Pufferfish, because Slime is more of a kiting tool than a damage-dealing tool. You’re now able to destroy multiple Minion waves, and hit Heroes that are further away from your Pufferfish epicenter. In teamfights, you’ve now turned your Pufferfish into a Great White Whale.
Level 10 Heroics
Octo-Grab. Every, single, time. Prior to hitting level 10, Murky is primarily a lane-pushing bot. Once you pick up Octo-Grab, you now have legitimate kill potential on squishy targets. Simply walk up to your target, Slime them, place your Pufferfish down and Octo-Grab them. The timer on your Octo-Grab will synchronize with your Pufferfish, and deal a tremendous amount of burst damage — especially if your Living the Dream is at full stacks. Make sure you cast Slime after the stun wears off, as the cooldown should be refreshed already.
Level 13 Talents
Recommended: Bubble Machine
To increase your survivability, choose Bubble Machine for level 13. It reduces the cooldown of your Safety Bubble by 5 seconds, making it a 7 second cooldown. You’re practically invulnerable for 25% of the time, and will allow you to keep your Living the Dream stacks for longer periods of time. Again, use your Safety Bubble for damage mitigations purposes at this point in the game, because some Heroes now have the ability to 1 shot you.
Level 16 Talents
Recommended: Rejuvenating Bubble
To increase your survivability even further — choose Rejuvenating Bubble! Use your Safety Bubble when you’re just below 50% Health, and you’ll regenerate to full in the 2 seconds that you’re in your Safety Bubble. This talent is extremely strong during teamfights, because your Safety Bubble only has a 7 second cooldown now. At this point, you’re able to play Murky as an off-tank during teamfights, soaking up damage, and mitigating spells with your Safety Bubble.
Level 20 Talents
Recommended: …And A Shark Too!
At this stage in the game, you’re going to be participating in a lot of teamfights, and you need the extra damage to kill targets. …And A Shark Too! makes your Octo-Grab deal some fairly significant damage during the 3 second stun, and increases your kill potential on squishy targets even further. With this talent, it’s now quite easy to 1 shot a low-health target with your full spell combo. Mrgl!
